One is used to getting her own way. The other is used to getting things done. In ViQueens, the king’s daughter Ingrid and the blacksmith’s daughter Hedvig set off on an adventure that tests both their courage and their friendship.
Ingrid has grown up as the king’s daughter in the Viking kingdom of Lofotr. She is smart, strong-willed and fairly certain that her own ideas are the best. The world beyond promises adventure, and Ingrid wants to be the one who comes home with a story worth telling.
But dreaming of great deeds is very different from finding yourself in a situation you cannot simply command your way out of. Far from home, being a princess is not always much help. On the journey, Ingrid must learn to listen to others and discover that good leadership takes more than having the last word.
Hedvig takes a more practical approach to the world. The blacksmith’s daughter is fearless, resourceful and quick with a sarcastic comment. While Ingrid imagines what they could achieve, Hedvig is already working out how. She has both the skills and the determination to turn a plan into action.
Beneath her tough exterior lies a deep loyalty. Hedvig is a friend you can count on when things get difficult, but she also has a mind of her own. With two strong personalities on the same journey, they are not always going to agree on the way forward.
When Ingrid and Hedvig set out to take the young stowaway Chung home to China, their differences take on new significance. They meet people whose experiences differ from their own and discover a world bigger than the stories they know from home. Both have something to contribute — and something to learn.
The interplay between Ingrid’s ambition and Hedvig’s resourcefulness shapes their friendship. They challenge each other and discover sides of themselves that everyday life in Lofotr has never put to the test.
These two girls are at the heart of ViQueens: brave, flawed and full of possibility, on their way to discovering who they want to be.
